JoMar was raised on a dairy farm in central Illinois where he showed Holsteins and chickens in 4-H & FFA. After graduating from the U. of Illinois with a B.S degree in Dairy Technology, he received his Navy Reserve Commission at the Naval Officer Candidate School. JoMar was the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (E.O.D.) and Diving Officer onboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea CVA-43 aircraft carrier for three years during the Viet Nam war.
After living in Arizona for 18 years he moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1989 when Lake Mead was full and flowing over the spillway of Boulder Dam.
JoMar hiked to the summit of Kilimanjaro just before his 61st birthday on his first of five trips to Africa to photograph all the beautiful wildlife and birds. He has also been to Brazil to photograph jaguars and to India for their majestic tigers. JoMar has hiked over 1,100 miles below the Grand Canyon rim and now enjoys traveling with his wife, Leslie, shooting landscapes and wildlife with his Canon camera.
